Managing Director, Head of Growth Equity
Raymond Wong is a Managing Director and heads the Growth Equity Group. Prior to joining SMC in 2007, Mr. Wong was a senior Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. While at Merrill Lynch, Mr. Wong served on the Investment Banking Operating Committee and as Chairman of the Corporate Finance Committee. During his 25 years at Merrill Lynch, he had responsibility for the corporate finance relationships for many of the firm’s largest corporate clients. Mr. Wong served on the board of directors of Alleghany Corporation and previously served on the board of directors of Merrill Lynch Ventures, LLC. Mr. Wong received his M.B.A. with honors from Harvard Business School and graduated summa cum laude from Yale College with a B.A. in Political Science.

Managing Director
Jamie Weston is a Managing Director in SMC’s Growth Equity Group and has been with the firm since 2011. Mr. Weston was previously a Partner at The Wicks Group of Companies, a private equity firm with close to $1 billion under management, focused on selected segments of the information, education, and media industries. During his 15 years at Wicks, he was an integral part of its investment and management activities, and served on the board of directors of many of its portfolio companies. While at Wicks, he directly structured and negotiated more than 20 acquisitions and divestitures and worked on more than 40 additional closed transactions. Prior to Wicks, Mr. Weston worked at IBJ Whitehall Bank & Trust Company and National Westminster Bancorp, where he completed leveraged financings. Mr. Weston received his M.B.A. from Fordham University and graduated cum laude from Drew University with a B.A. in Economics.

Founder and Senior Managing Director
Mr. John L. Steffens is the Founder and Senior Managing Director of SMC, co-head of SMC’s Private Capital Funds Group and is a member of each SMC Fund’s Investment Committee. Prior to founding SMC in 2001, Mr. Steffens spent 38 years at Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., where he held numerous senior management positions, including President of Merrill Lynch Consumer Markets, Vice Chairman of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., and Chairman of its U.S. Private Client Group. Under his leadership, the Private Client Group experienced tremendous growth, increasing assets under management from $200 billion to $1.6 trillion. Mr. Steffens also served on the board of directors of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. from April 1986 until July 2001.
Mr. Steffens currently serves on the board of directors of AtlasXomics Inc., and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMS Alternatives Inc. He also serves on the advisory board of StarVest Partners. In addition, he is currently National Chairman Emeritus of the Alliance for Aging Research. Previously, Mr. Steffens served as Chairman of the Securities Industry Association (now the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, or SIFMA), as a Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development, and as a member of the Board of Overseers of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. In 2010, Mr. Steffens was the recipient of the Billie Jean King Contribution Award from the Women’s Sports Foundation.
Mr. Steffens received a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and also completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
President and Head of Opportunity Zones
Mr. Ho is the President of SMC and one of its founding partners, as well as the head of the Opportunity Zones Group. Prior to joining SMC in 2001, Mr. Ho was a Principal and Chief Financial Officer of McKinsey. During his 16 years with McKinsey, he led the financial and tax planning for the firm and its worldwide partner group. Mr. Ho also was a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and a Trustee of McKinsey’s Profit-Sharing Retirement Plan (PSRP). In these capacities, he oversaw the identification, evaluation, and selection of traditional and alternative asset managers and investments for over $1 billion of assets managed by the McKinsey Investment Office (MIO). After leaving McKinsey in 1998 and prior to joining SMC, Mr. Ho was a private investor and consultant. Prior to joining McKinsey, he was associated with the law firm of Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine.
Mr. Ho is a currently a member of the Advisory Board of Venture for America and the Advisory Council for Columbia Law School’s Center for Public Research and Leadership. He received a J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.S., with honors, in Administrative Science from Yale College. He is a member of the New York Bar and the California Bar.

Principal
Kenneth Soll is a Principal in SMC’s Growth Equity Group and has been with the firm since 2017. Mr. Soll was previously at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he focused on transactions in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors. Mr. Soll graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in Human and Organizational Development.

Vice President
Ms. Lawhorne is a Vice President in SMC’s Growth Equity Group and joined the firm in 2023. Prior to joining SMC, Ms. Lawhorne was an Associate at Apollo Global Management in their Private Equity Group specializing in the energy transition and industrials sectors, where she was involved in all stages of investment processes and portfolio company management. She began her career as an investment banking analyst at Credit Suisse in NewYork. She is also a junior board member of the nonprofit FAN4Kids. Ms. Lawhorne graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University with a BSM in Finance.

Office Manager, Benefits Coordinator, and Chief of Staff of Opportunity Zones
Ms. Dzienius is SMC’s Office Manager and Administrative Assistant and joined the firm in 2019. Her prior experience includes over six years in both the retail and hospitality industries, including operational experience opening and managing multiple locations. She received her B.S. in Business Management from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Woo is the firm’s Chief Financial Officer and joined SMC in 2010. He was formerly a Senior Audit Associate in the financial services department at McGladrey & Pullen, LLP. During his three and a half years with McGladrey, he was responsible for performing audit, tax and administrative services for a variety of hedge funds. Mr. Woo received a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Accounting and Information Systems from Queens College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Controller
Ms. Hui is SMC’s Controller and joined the firm in 2009. She was formerly a Financial Analyst in the Financial Planning & Analysis department at McKinsey & Company, Inc., an international management consulting firm. During her 30 years at McKinsey, from 1988 to 2008, Ms. Hui managed global budget and forecasting and contributed to monthly financial reports and various targeted reports, models and databases. From 1978 to 1987, Ms. Hui was an International Tax Accountant and assisted with U.S. Federal and State tax returns. Ms. Hui received a B.B.A. in Public Accounting from Pace University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Client Relations Associate
Ms. Fagbemi is SMC’s Client Relations Associate and joined the firm in 2021. She was most recently at Goldman Sachs, where she supported multiple executives within the private wealth management division. Previously, she was a Finance Specialist, resolving issues of NYC’s private and commercial property owners; a Client Service Specialist in insurance and risk management; and she spent a decade working in Management and Human Resources at a multinational clothing retailer. Ms. Fagbemi graduated from CUNY Brooklyn College with a double major in Pre-Law and History.
Director of IT
Pavel Greenfield, Ph.D., is currently co-head of the Education Technology practice in SMC’s Opportunity Zone group. He is also the founder of Lemma, an innovative education technology startup that develops educational content and has served thousands of students across the globe. Since joining SMC in 2001, Pavel has held a range of positions across the firm from technical architecture and cybersecurity to risk and quantitative analysis.
Mr. Greenfield is also an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Drexel University. He was employed by Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. from July 1996 to February 1999. While in the Management Science area, he contributed to the calculation of the ML Baby Boom Index, as well as the creation and maintenance of a system for the construction of optimal portfolios of mutual funds. Upon transferring to the Global Risk Management area, he monitored the VaR system, assisted in testing derivatives pricing models, and was instrumental in designing the new risk system S2 for monitoring market exposures across all trading groups.
Mr. Greenfield received a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. in Physics from Princeton University.
Fund Controller
Ms. Chang is the Fund Controller at SMC and joined the firm in 2021. She was previously at SMC from July 2007 until March 2010, and from August 2011 until June 2020, most recently as an Accounting Manager. Ms. Chang previously served as a Manager at SS&C Technologies, a Senior Accountant at Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. and a Senior Audit Associate at Rothstein Kass & Company. While at Rothstein Kass, she was responsible for performing audit and tax work on various hedge funds. Ms. Chang received an M.S. in Accountancy from Baruch College and a B.S. in Business Administration from Wichita State University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
General Counsel
Ms. Tara Sharp is the General Counsel of SMC. Before joining SMC, Tara was an associate in the Finance Department at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP. Prior to joining Schulte Roth and Zabel LLP, Tara was an associate in the Credit and Mergers and Acquisitions Departments of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, and served as law clerk for the Honorable Richard Conway Casey, in the Southern District of New York. Tara received a J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. from The College of William and Mary, and is a member of the New York Bar.

Andrei Zimiles is the co-founder and CEO of Doctor.com, an SMC Growth Equity Fund II company. As CEO, Andrei guided the company from inception through growth and a successful exit in 2020. Prior to founding Doctor.com, Andrei was a founding team member of KN Dimestore, a market research company acquired by Knowledge Networks in 2009 (now part of Gfk, a $1.3B publicly traded German company), and an early employee of Game Trust, which was acquired by Real Networks (NASDAQ: RNWK) in 2007. With 35+ years of health care experience, managing health care organizations of all sizes, Debra Geihsler is well-versed in the needs of delivering excellent health care. Debra, along with an equal business partner, created Activate Healthcare from an idea to a national company. Activate Healthcare opened its first clinics in 2010. Since that time, Activate Healthcare continues to grow rapidly with 20 – 40% growth each year and having been listed four times on the Inc. 5000 as one of the fastest growing privately held organizations. The organization now has dozens of clinics and serves over 100,000 members. The organization has consistently lowered total healthcare costs by 10 to 25 percent, improved health outcomes for patients and provided a great new benefit for working members. Most recently Activate was identified by KLAS as the top organization in this service area by delivering excellence and customer satisfaction.
Prior to creating Activate Healthcare, Debra served as CEO/President of Harvard Vanguard Medical Group and Atrius Health System in Boston, Massachusetts. This combined organization consisted of more than 1100 providers and 40 locations and services.
With primary care physicians, 40+ specialty services, a retail pharmacy, laboratory services, surgical centers, cancer centers, diagnostic centers, dental services, and behavioral health care, the organization treated and managed more than 650,000 patients.
In addition, Debra has served as CEO of Advocate Medical Group in Chicago, Illinois where she led the creation of various employer-based on-site clinics. Her responsibilities included managing more than 400 physicians, 30+ clinical locations and ancillary services.
Debra’s proficient background enables her to effectively guide the development and operations of on-site clinics. Her experience also allows Activate Healthcare to help employers manage the full range of patient care. This unique perspective allows Activate Healthcare to both lower costs and improve the quality of resulting care across the full spectrum of health services.

Dr. Delano J McFarlane has undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science from MIT and a PhD in Biomedical Informatics from Columbia University. He has worked for many years in the software services and Internet industries as an engineer, data scientist and manager. Most recently Delano worked as a data scientist and head of engineering at the social payments company Venmo. He is currently doing career and technical mentorship and advisory work for technologists and technology startups in the New York area, while also pursuing research in machine learning.

Gary Millin is a serial entrepreneur with full lifecycle experience and a track record of scaling companies from inception to exit. Gary is currently CEO of World Accelerator where he works closely with leadership teams to help them grow their businesses and transform industries. Among his many ventures, Gary was a co-founder and executive Chairman of Doctor.com. Founded in 2012, Doctor.com provides SaaS services to thousands of clients, including 200+ leading hospitals and health systems, 30,000+ private practices, and leading brands in the life sciences industry to help them deliver a better customer experience at every step of the digital patient journey. Doctor.com was sold to Press Ganey in October 2020.
Before that Gary was President of MediaSentry Inc., a leader in the digital media security space, and orchestrated a sale to SafeNet (“NASDAQ:SFNT”) in 2005. Gary also co-founded Mail.com, a pioneer in the webmail space growing to over 20 million subscribers, which Gary took public as President alongside Gerry Gorman in 1999 (“NASDAQ:MAIL”). Before Mail.com, Gary started the early part of his career in finance in the early 90’s working both in corporate finance at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and venture capital at Consumer Venture Partners.
Gary has a BS from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jason Rifkin is Co-head of the Life Sciences Strategy in Spring Mountain Capital’s Social Impact Group. In this capacity, Jason leads discovery and diligence on WHIN’s investments in Life Sciences companies focused on neurodegenerative diseases, oncology, biologic, and small molecule therapeutics, drug delivery, and medical devices. Jason has extensive experience in developmental stage life science and healthcare companies. Across his career, Jason has managed all aspects of company operations. Prior to joining SMC, Jason held executive roles at PhageNova Bio, Cage Pharma, and Delcath Systems, Inc.
Before his career in the Life Sciences, Jason practiced law with Fox Rothschild as an Associate in the Corporate Department/-Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Group. Jason received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Law Degree from Northeastern University School of Law, and a Masters of Biotechnology from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Lynda Clarizio has spent the last 18 years as a successful executive in the media industry growing and scaling businesses with a particular focus on data and technology. From 2013 thru 2017, she was the President of Nielsen U.S. Media, responsible for leading the performance of Nielsen’s U.S. Watch business providing media and advertiser clients with measurement and marketing effectiveness solutions across television, digital, audio and other media. Prior to Nielsen, she was Executive Vice President for corporate development and operations at AppNexus, a leading programmatic advertising platform. Before joining AppNexus, she was the CEO and President of INVISION, Inc., a leading provider of multi-platform advertising solutions. Clarizio previously had a decade-long career at AOL, which she joined in 1999. She was the President of AOL’s consolidated advertising businesses, then called Platform-A. She also served as the President of Advertising.com, then the industry’s largest third party online advertising network. She was Executive Vice President of AOL’s audience business responsible for strategy, finance and business development, and also AOL’s Senior Vice President for corporate strategic and financial planning and Senior Vice President for acquisitions and strategic investments. Prior to joining AOL, Clarizio was a partner in the leading Washington, D.C. law firm Arnold & Porter, where she practiced law from 1987 thru 1999.
Clarizio is a recognized leader in advertising and media, having been named one of 2017’s “50 Most Powerful Women in New York” by Crain’s, one of 2011’s top 100 “Tech Titans” in the Washington, DC region by The Washingtonian, one of 2009’s “25 Executives to Watch in Digital Entertainment” by Digital Media Wire, and one of 2008’s “Women to Watch” by Advertising Age. She also was selected one of 1998’s “Top 40 Lawyers Under 40” by The Washingtonian.
Clarizio is a member of the boards of directors of CDW, Resonate, OpenSlate and Human Rights First. She is a 1985 graduate of Harvard Law School and a 1982 graduate of Princeton University.

Patrick Finn, Principal and Co-Founder of Finn Advisors, joined Cerberus Capital Management and Tracker Capital Management as a Senior Advisor and Managing Director in June 2017. He has extensive board experience and is currently serving on the boards of LookingGlass Cyber, LiveEarth and R9B. As a Senior Advisor and Managing Director, Pat is responsible for evaluating investment opportunities, providing guidance on strategy, assessing operational excellence, and increasing customer engagement to drive growth and scaling opportunities. At Finn Advisors, Pat continues to support existing clients and startup companies on a variety of topics including cybersecurity, data and analytics.
Currently, Pat is on the SMC Growth Equity Strategic Advisory Board and Trident Capital’s Cybersecurity Advisory Council. He has been a commissioner of the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future and is also very involved and passionate in assisting the men and women of the U.S. military in education and employment opportunities. Paul Gilbert has 30 years of leadership, strategy, and innovation experience at best-practice organizations including Johnson & Johnson, Arm & Hammer, Booz Allen and Gillette. He has successfully scaled up companies in both consumer and business markets with an emphasis on innovating new markets.
As CEO of MedAvante, Paul and his co-founder, Amy Ellis, envisioned, launched, and globalized two new-to-world innovations that transformed psychiatric and neurological trials across a 40 country footprint. The first, Central Ratings, solved the pharmaceutical industry’s intractably high rate of failed mental health trials. MedAvante reduced trial failure rates of known effective psychiatric treatments from 50% to under 15%. The second innovation, electronic clinical outcome assessments (eSource), led the pharma industry’s transition from error-prone paper-based central nervous system trials to accurate digitally-enabled trials. This innovation achieved $200 million sales in its first 32 months. At the time of MedAvante’s sale, Paul’s GlassDoor rating was 98% versus the eHealth category average of 51%.
Paul has served most recently on the boards of Growth Philanthropy Network (current), Derma Sciences, a publicly traded tissue regeneration company recently acquired, and the prestigious non-profit International Longevity Centre Global Alliance (acquired by Columbia University). Paul has been invited to present on innovation multiple times at Princeton, Wharton, and Stanford and is a strategic advisor to young innovative companies. In 2012, he was awarded the Ernst & Young Lifesciences Entrepreneur of the Year.
Paul graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College where he was named a James Bowdoin Scholar, and received his MBA from Harvard University.

Peter Dunn has 25+ years of CEO and general management experience and a strong track record of helping companies grow profitably.
Most recently Peter co-founded Activate Healthcare which provides primary care for the employees and family members within employers/organizations. Activate Healthcare was acquired recently by Paladina Health which is owned by a consortium of investors including NEA New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Oak HC/FT, Alta Partners, Greenspring Associates and other strategic investors. Spring Mountain Capital was the lead private equity investor in Activate Healthcare before this most recent transaction.
Prior to founding Activate Healthcare, Peter served as CEO for the Steak N Shake Restaurant Company (on the NYSE) and was the President of Borden Foods (a company owned by KKR).
Peter also served as a board member and Chairman of the Board of Feeding America (the nation’s foodbank network), which is the second largest not for profit organization in the U.S. Peter is currently serving as an Executive Fellow at the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership. This organization is a not for profit associated with faculty at Harvard Business School and Chalmers University in Sweden. It advances the practice of leadership based on the approach that organizations are most successful when they create both economic and social value. Member organization`s include Aetna, Becton Dickinson, Boston Scientific, Herman Miller and many others.
Peter is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business. Peter lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with his wife and has two children.

Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala is Chief Product Officer for Ivanti. Dr. Mukkamala is responsible for Product Management for all Ivanti Security products and will continue to drive innovation in integrated security solutions across all company pillars: ITSM, Security and UEM.
Dr. Mukkamala is a cyber security expert and technology leader with a proven track record of publishing over 120 peer reviewed publications, founding a company and successfully exiting. Srinivas has a track record for developing transformative technology in Risk Based Cyber Security and Offensive Cyber Capabilities.
He is a recognized authority in artificial intelligence and the early use of Support Vector Machines (SVMs for Cyber Security in early 2000s) and was part of a think tank that collaborated with the U.S. Department of Defense on applying these concepts to cybersecurity problems.
Srinivas was part of a think tank that collaborated with the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Intelligence Community on applying these concepts to cybersecurity problems. Dr. Mukkamala was also a lead researcher for CACTUS (Computational Analysis of Cyber Terrorism against the U.S.) and holds a patent on Intelligent Agents for Distributed Intrusion Detection System and Method of Practicing.
Dr. Mukkamala holds a PhD of Philosophy and a Master of Science degree from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Srinivas is passionate about solving hard cyber security and Artificial Intelligence (AI) problems that impact quality of human life, mission oriented, and working with high performance teams.
